Xiaomi Redmi Note 3:
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 has received a lot of appreciation right from the moment it launched in India. It is powered by the Snapdragon 650 SoC and packs 3GB of RAM which should be good enough to handle most of your daily tasks.
The Note 3’s 32GB internal storage space can be expanded further up to 32 GB but, you will have to give up one of the SIM slots, thanks to the hybrid SIM slot setup.
It rocks a 5.5-inch Full-HD display at the front with a pixel density of 403 PPI (Pixels Per Inch). What this essentially means is that the text looks crisp on the display and you get good visuals.
Lately, the fingerprint sensor has become a standard in the sub-Rs.15,000 category and the Note 3 is no exception. It comes with a fingerprint scanner at the back with a claimed unlock speed of 0.3 seconds.
A 16-megapixel camera rests at the rear along with the two-tone LED for better imaging in low-lighting condition. The 5-megapixel camera at the front caters to the needs of selfie lovers.
The note 3 runs MIUI 7 which is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop and is backed by a massive 4050mAh battery which should last you a day easily even on heavy usage.
The Redmi Note 3 is priced at Rs. 11,999 for the 3GB variant and Rs. 9,999 for the 2GB variant.
Vivo V3 Max:
Vivo, the world’s fifth largest smartphone maker, last month, unveiled Vivo V3 and V3 Max at an event in Mumbai. The Vivo V3 Max features a 5.5-inch Full-HD (1080 x 1920p) display with a layer of Gorilla Glass technology to protect the screen from scratches. It uses a 1.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 chipset coupled with a massive 4GB of RAM.
The hybrid SIM slot allows to expand the 32GB onboard storage space up to 128GB provided you have a microSD card.
There’s also a fingerprint sensor at the back which can unlock the phone from rest in 0.5 seconds.
For the photography enthusiasts, the V3 Max comes with a 13-megapixel PDAF camera along with an LED flash. An 8-megapixel camera at the front takes care of selfies and video calls.
A 3,000mAh battery provides the juice for the device. It also has Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 support. The Vivo V3 Max boots Android 5.1 Lollipop with a layer of FunTouch OS 2.5 on it.
It comes with a price tag of Rs. 23,980.
On paper, both the phones look pretty strong. Let’s find out which one of these two phones manage to have an upper hand.
Design Comparison: Vivo V3 Max vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 3
To start with, both the phones feature a metal unibody design. The Redmi Note 3 weighs around 164g with a thickness of 8.6mm while the Vivo V3 Max with a thickness of 7.5mm weighs about 168 g. There is not much difference in terms of weight but the V3 Max is certainly thinner than the Note 3. Therefore, the V3 Max sits better in the hand. However, one-handed usage of these 5.5-inch phones will still be cumbersome.
As far as the looks go, the Note 3 looks pretty much polished in comparison to the uninspiring design of the V3 Max.
Display Comparison:
Both the companies have done a pretty good job of offering a good display. The V3 Max’s display is sharp, bright, and offers good colour reproduction but, so is the one on the Note 3. Both the phones offer decent sunlight legibility.
The fact that the Note 3 offers a few additional features like Night Mode and Reading Mode yields the extra points.
Software Comparison:
In terms of software, both the phones are based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. The MIUI 7 on the Note 3 sure offers good customisation options but it doesn’t come without downsides: App crashes and stability issues to name a few. The V3 Max also faces similar issues.
Overall, software on both the phones need to be optimised to offer hassle-free experience.
Performance Comparison:
The Vivo V3 Max has slightly better hardware in comparison to the Redmi Note 3 and the difference is visible right from the very first moment. Apps open quickly on the V3 Max and the gaming performance is smooth and fluid.
That doesn’t mean that the Note 3’s performance is bad by any means; it’s just that the V3 Max has a slight upper hand on the Note 3 on performance. Additionally, the V3 Max comes with a Hi-Fi tag on it – meaning it offers high quality audio listening experience.
Camera:
The images captured on the V3 Max are fairly sharp but the colour reproduction is not up to the mark. On the other hand, the images captured on the Redmi Note 3 offered decent colour reproduction but lacked in sharpness. Focusing is fairly quick on both the phones. The front camera on both the devices offer decent images. Both the cameras are capable of recording 1080p videos.
Battery Life:
On normal usage both the phones will last for a day easily. In fact the Redmi Note 3 will even last more than a day, thanks to its 4,050mAh battery. However, on heavy usage such as continuous gaming, the V3 Max battery drains quickly and might not last a day.
The Vivo V3 Max is priced at Rs. 23,980 whereas you’ll get the Redmi Note 3 for Rs. 11,999. If you are a heavy gamer and expect smooth performance from your phone, V3 Max will be a good buy.
However, considering the fact that the Note 3 offers almost similar features at half the price of the V3 Max makes it a good deal. We have already mentioned the major differences between both the devices above. Now, it’s your turn to choose the device of your liking.
