Suddenly, a number of Chinese manufacturers are eyeing the Indian mobile market, thanks to the success of One Plus. One such vendor is LeEco (formerly known as LeTv). Here is a detailed LeEco Le 1s Eco Review – a detailed point by point analysis of the smartphone, and how it compares with its competitor products.
The company made its reputation with its previously launched devices – the Le 1S and Le Max. And more recently, they released the upgrade to the popular Le 1S dubbed as LeEco Le 1s Eco. The ‘Eco’ on this device refers to the ecosystem and the device comes with a special supertainment package.
It is worth mentioning that the device is specially made for Indian customers. Let’s quickly get onto the review of LeEco Le 1s Eco and check out whether the upgrade from its predecessor is worthy or not.
Design: 9/10
There are no noticeable differences in terms of design from its predecessor. The LeEco Le 1s Eco boasts of an all-metal body built with aviation-grade alloy, giving it a polished, rich look and the device feels great in the hand.
Additionally, LeEco embedded a fingerprint sensor – you can find it below the rear camera. What we did not like with the fingerprint scanner is that it acts as a mirror kind of thing, which is awful at times. The speaker grille and micro-USB port are located on the bottom of the device.
On the whole, we believe that this is the best design in the sub Rs. 10,000 price range.
Display: 6/10
The front is dominated by a 5.5-inch full HD display with a pixel resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels resulting in a pixel density of 401 PPI. The screen offers well saturated colors with decent contrast. However, viewing angles don’t inspire confidence and the device struggles under bright sunlight conditions.
Hardware & Performance: 7/10
The LeEco Le 1S Eco houses an octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor with all of its cores clocking 1.85 GHz. You also get a solid 3 GB RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. Out of 32 GB, 29 GB of storage is available for users.
Do note that there is no support for micro SD card slot, so you can’t expand storage. But also appreciate that 29 GB is huge storage space – much more than an average Indian phone user typically needs.
With this hardware, the device performs well in day-to-day tasks. The device scored 54,089 in AnTuTu Benchmark which tests the overall performance of the device.
Games like Asphalt 8, Nova 3 run very smoothly – we didn’t face a single issue while playing these games. The one issue that cropped up was that the rear of the device becomes warm if we play for a longer duration, which can be quite a turn-off. Call quality was above par and we did not face a single call drop during our entire review period.
Software and Apps: 8/10
The Le 1S Eco runs on a heavily customized version of Android EUI 5.5 with Android 5.0.2 as its base. The skin is pretty smooth and bloatware free which is brilliant because nowadays manufacturers ship their own UI with a lot of bloatware in it.
For the Le 1S Eco version, they have added a “Supertainment” package which gives you access to TV channels, movies, songs, and live shows. An application called ‘Live’ is integrated into the OS to access all the services.
Camera: 5/10
The Le 1S Eco comes with a 13-megapixel rear shooter and 5-megapixel front facing camera. The cameras are exactly the same as in the previous version.
Images taken in daylight popped out with good details and depth of field. However, the device fails to produce superior images under low light. The cameras on both Le 1S and 1S Eco are below par when compared to other devices available in the market.
Battery Life: 5/10
As said in the hardware section, the LeEco 1s Eco comes with a USB Type-C charger which charges the device relatively faster. We put the device to our battery tests and the results proved to be quite disappointing. The phone lasted for less than seven hours in our video loop tests which is underwhelming.
Verdict: 7/10
If battery life or camera quality matters to you, stay away from the LeEco Le 1s Eco. However, if looks matter and you would like a phone which looks and feels like an expensive phone, then this phone can be a great purchase.
