How to Strengthen Weak Hair Naturally

Dull and weak hair reflects a large part of one’s lifestyle and hair care routine. From harsh chemicals to stress, there are a lot of factors which turn your hair from healthy to dull. Weak and lifeless hair with split-ends is a look no one enjoys to sport.

How to Identify“Weak Hair”?

Why me?
  1. You have a prominent receding hairline.
  2. Your hair starts forming split ends quite often.
  3. You see a lot of fallen hair around- stuck in your bathroom drain, your comb, your pillowcase etc.
  4. You have an extremely sensitive scalp

How to Strengthen Weak Hair?

As every problem has a solution, hair damage can also be reversed with the right usage of natural treatments and remedies. You can follow these 10 tips to bid a fond farewell to the dull and brittle hair:

1) Onion Juice

A rich source of sulfur, onions are known to boost the required antioxidants in the hair and strengthen them. Take an onion, blend it into a mixture, strain and use the juice directly into your hair. Let it sit for good 20-30 minutes and rinse off with a mild shampoo. Alternatively, the mixture can be used along with castor oil, coconut oil or eggs.

2) Coconut Oil

If there is one magic ingredient that works wonders on all hair types, it has to be our very own “Coconut oil”. The vitamins and fatty acids in it help in strengthening your hair and nourish them from within. To acquire best results, warm a bit of coconut oil, massage it well into your scalp and leave it overnight to let it work.

3) Eggs

Your hair need protein to stay healthy and nourished. There can’t be a better source than eggs to provide that vital nutrient. Take 2-3 eggs depending on your hair length, whip them into a foamy mixture and apply on your hair generously. Leave the mixture for a minimum of 2 hours. Using this treatment for 1-2 times a week ensures healthier and stronger hair.

4) Essential Oils

Essential oils are quite underrated when it comes to treating your hair the natural way. A right blend of essential oils can completely transform your hair quality, strengthening both the strands and follicles. To make a soothing blend of essential oils, you can take a 3-4 teaspoons of grapeseed/ jojoba oil, add 2 drops each of thyme essential oil and cedar wood essential oil. For fragrance, you can add a few drops of lavender or patchouli essential oil. Massage well into your scalp and keep it for an hour. Wash that off with shampoo and warm water.

5) Homemade Avocado Mask

Avocado fruit is a great source of biotin and it is widely believed that it can make our hair grow healthier and stronger. In all of its natural forms, be it the fruit, seeds or its oil, avocado is a blessing for the hair. To make the mask, you can whip a ripe avocado with some curd and a tablespoon of coconut or olive oil for best results. Besides, you can massage avocado oil into your scalp once a week to promote hair restoration and maintain the shine.

6) Apple Cider Vinegar as a Natural Conditioner

The ideal pH balance of hair ranges from 4 to 5. Apple cider vinegar helps in maintaining the pH balance of your hair and remove any buildup without stripping the natural oils from the scalp. You can substitute your chemical-laden hair conditioner with ACV to gain optimum benefits. Dilute 2 tablespoons of ACV with a cup of water and apply the mixture on your scalp and hair length after shampoo. Your hair will feel happier.

Happy Hair Days Again

7) Eat Clean and Stay Hydrated

Even if you use the best natural treatments to strengthen hair, you can’t achieve the healthiest looking hair unless you eat the right food and drink lots of water. Make sure to include fiber rich options like vegetables and salads, sufficient proteins and drink 2-3 liters of water every day.

8) Regular Trimming

Many of us choose to not trim our hair for months. Hair experts, however, suggest that regular trimming of hair is an extremely important process to get rid of split-ends and improvethe hair health in general. Split ends can make your hair brittle and weak which ultimately lead to those much dreaded “bad hair days” more often than you would like. So, schedule an appointment with your hairdresser and go get a trim right away!

9) Silk Pillowcases

Most of us use pillowcases made of cotton and other unnatural fibres. These fabrics absorb the natural oils present on our scalp and make our hair dry and brittle. On the other hand, Silk pillowcases are gentle and keep your hair away from breakage. So invest in a silk pillowcase or a silk head wrap and you’ll not regret your decision ever.

10) Avoid Heat Treatments and Exposure

Regular use of heat treatments like hair dryers, straighteners, styling tools etc. can damage your hair to a great extent. Not only heat weakens hair, it also snatches away the natural shine making your hair look dry and lifeless. Leave your hair to dry naturally in the sun and try to use heatless methods to style your hair.

BONUS TIP:

11) Use Wooden Combs and Fibre Hair Brushes

Many of us use plastic combs and brushes for our hair but top stylists recommend otherwise. Plastic combs can tangle your hair and also mess up with the natural oils present in the scalp. Using a high-quality wooden comb or brush can help in promoting hair growth and bring back the natural sheen. Also, opt for the natural fibres instead of synthetic ones’ next time you pick a hair brush.

The Saviours

Always remember that reinforcing your hair is not rocket science. In this era, where there are thousands of commercial hair products and treatments available that are loaded with nasty chemicals, you need to come back to the “basics” and embrace the nature to restore your hair to its best form.
