The first Nexus device was launched in the year of 2010 to showcase Google’s stock Android. Year after year, the Nexus devices improved in terms of everything, whether it be hardware or software. Up until now, Google used to release only one Nexus device per year.
There are many speculations on the internet regarding the design of the Nexus 6P, but we admit that the all-metal body device looks insanely good and premium. The device is just 7.3 mm thick; it is undoubtedly surprising how Huawei embedded a large 3,450mAh battery given this thickness.
The two new Nexus devices now come with fingerprint scanners on the back dubbed as Nexus Imprint. There are two front facing speakers and the buttons are placed on the right side of the device. We feel that the device’s design is top-notch.
The Nexus 6P comes with a 5.7-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440×2560 pixels which further translates to a pixel density of 518 PPI. The display is without choice one of the best in the industry offering crisp and saturated colors. Only the Galaxy Note 5 has a better screen than the Nexus 6P.
As said earlier, Google created the Nexus family to showcase the stock Android. The Nexus 6P comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Android N is already out in the form of Developer Preview. There are no issues with the UI and we never faced a single lag or sort of hang in the device.
So, this defines the actual purpose of Nexus devices. The Nexus 6P unquestionably delivers blazing and fast performance. In our entire review period, the device ran smoothly with no sign of lag at all. Multitasking was good too.
The Snapdragon 810 V2.1 chipset is optimized to provide great performance and the chipset is coupled with 3GB of RAM to handle system operations.
While call quality is generally great, we did face some call drops with Tata Docomo SIM card, but we never had a single issue when on the Bharti Airtel network even on 4G LTE. Time and again, Nexus devices are redefining what performance actual means on an Android device.
Google finally took customer reviews seriously. The camera on Nexus devices till date are underwhelming with even the Nexus 5 failing to appeal to the shutterbugs. The Nexus 6P has a 12.3-megapixel rear camera which captures images with a good amount of detail and depth of field. Also, the colours are accurate with the AMOLED screen doesn’t come into play as with the Samsung devices.
The front-facing camera on the Nexus 6P is of 8-megapixels, and it captured some good shots in both bright light and low light conditions. The camera app UI is decent with all the options hidden on the left but that can be viewed by a slide from the left . On the whole, the camera on the Nexus 6P has improved much in terms of performance and capability. But, an Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) would have been even better to handle motion shots.
It’s quite astonishing how Huawei managed to embed a 3,450mAh battery inside this device with 7.3mm thickness. Google introduced the Doze battery saving feature with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow which is really helpful. The device lasted for about a day and even more with moderate usage involving one hour of gaming and YouTube streaming, an hour of calls, and sometimes with social network apps. The screen-on time was around 4-4:30 hours depending on the usage, which is decent enough for a Nexus device.
Huawei has done a great job in building this Nexus device. When Google and Huawei announced the same, many were not inspired by the decision, but all it has received since the release of the device has been praise.
The 32GB version of Nexus 6P ships for around 34,999 and the 64GB variant for 39,999 in Amazon.in and Flipkart. If you are looking for a device with a great camera and of course stock Android with decent battery life, you can consider the Nexus 6P rather than going for Galaxy S7 or Note 5.
