Does Falling Sick Frequently Indicate Anything Serious?

There can be countless reasons why you are falling sick frequently. The one that would always top the list is an indication of a weak or compromised immune system. The immune system, if you must know is your body’s first line of defence that helps to fight all foreign particles, organisms and objects in order to protect your body and keep it safe from harm. Various components of your body including your skin that creates a physical barrier, sticky mucus in your nasal passage, a gut that has friendly bacteria, Lymph system that has spleen, lymph nodes, bone marrow and thymus that ensure smooth transport of water, oxygen and food in your body are all part of your immune system. Together they work like a police force patrolling throughout your body to ensure there are no cross border infiltrations to ensure your body stays out of harm and you do not fall sick.

Falling sick frequently can mean many things, differing from case to case but like it is said before if your immune system is weak, it becomes inefficient and fails in defending your body. But first, let’s talk about what happens if your body’s defence system is all in place.

Are you allergic to something?

If your body is prone to falling sick more often but you do have a healthy immune system, your immune system is working against the infection every time to save you from greater health issues. You might be allergic to something you are surrounded with an allergen your body doesn’t respond very well to. You should give deeper thought and try to establish a connection between your falling sick and your lifestyle, food habits and surroundings. It could be dust, pollen, a certain food item like dairy, nuts or herb or simply anything. Get your allergy test done to identify the allergen and you should be able to attain a healthier lifestyle soon.

Are you adopting a healthy lifestyle?

If you are not adopting a healthy lifestyle, falling sick is your body’s way of telling you to get alarmed. Be it binge eating or drinking and smoking, not exercising enough or depriving your body of essential nutrients and water that it needs, your body’s second line of defence will come into action and fight against it to make it right for you. This might also lead to falling sick while your body is trying to fight against the troubles caused by a poor lifestyle.

Are you stressed and sleep-deprived?

Studies show that people with stress and anxiety issues are more vulnerable to falling sick because it fiddles with your brains and confuses it enough to prepare the plan of action for your body. The same goes for sleep deprivation. If a human body doesn’t get ample rest and sleep, it is more prone to falling sick and feeling weak, fatigued and diseased. So take your mind off all worries, get therapy if you must and get enough sleep.

What happens if your immunity is compromised?

If your immune system is weak, you are naturally more prone to falling sick and vulnerable to viral, bacterial and fungal infections, as your body’s immunity will not be able to fight against the micro-organisms that attack your body. A weak immune system will not be able to save you as much from frequent fevers, cold, cough and flu and even bigger health threats.

At a stage where your immune system completely fails, it could lead to more serious health risks as there is no natural defence against illness. This can lead to health issues and diseases like tuberculosis, herpes, Hepatitis, HIV, AIDS and Leukaemia.

How can you make it better?

You can strengthen your immunity by following a healthy and active lifestyle, including nutritive food in your diet and strengthen your cardiovascular health in order to build and maintain a strong and healthy immune system that doesn’t let you fall sick frequently. If you think your immune system is not supporting and safeguarding your body enough, it’s time to see a doctor and work it out with the help of his professional advice.
