Lot of you may not be aware that even before the 5th September official launch, Reliance Jio has been in a wide testing phase. Lakhs of users across India have already been using Jio services for a few months now, and the one crucial negative feedback is about the quality of voice calls on Jio.
The call drop rate on Jio is as high as 65%, we hear. Though this is primarily because of competitor networks like Airtel and Vodafone who have not been very keen to co-operate with Reliance.
While we definitely expect this situation to quickly improve over the next few months, you will definitely be facing a few problems in this early days.
No, we are not complaining – not at all. Jio’s plans are awesome, and what consumer would not love it. But the much tom-tommed Rs.50 per GB is not really true. If you look at the Rs.149 plan, you only get 300 MB data which actually works out to well over Rs.450 per GB.
But think again – with this, all your voice calls, std or local will be free. Roaming will now be free in the genuine sense of the word. And though in this whatsapped world, no one cares about SMSes any more, we still end up spending a bit every month on them. Unless you are an SMS maniac, the Jio plans will ensure that you don’t spend another dime on SMS ever again.
So you don’t get data at Rs.50 per GB – what you actually get is much better!
Come September 5th, and switch over to Jio – it will be silly not to. But don’t yet give up on your existing telecom operator. Wait for a few months for the Jio voice network to stabilize. Meanwhile enjoy the many free apps – we are being told they are worth Rs.15,000 per year!
